A decision on Wednesday by Greek Infrastructure and Transport Minister Christos Spirtzis opened the process of tendering for an electronic toll-calculation system on all highways in the country, ANA reports.
The dates will be announced after the call for tenders date is published in the formal EU newspaper; bidding is expected to take place in mid-February 2018. The system is expected to be fully operational by the end of 2018, beginning with Egnatia Odos, which crosses northern Greece.
The ministry has already started talks with contractors managing highways with toll booths in Greece, to brief them on the process.
