City of Athens announces reduced transport ahead of May Day rallies

Disruption is expected in Athens tomorrow as labor activists stage rallies and demonstrations to celebrate May 1, International Workers’ Day.

A rally by two large union groups is set at 11 a.m. local time (0800GMT) in central Athens preceded an hour earlier by another demonstration at Syntagma Square, home to the Greek parliament.

Public transport is on a reduced schedule, with the Metro lines 2 and 3 operating from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and no service to the airport while Metro line 1 will operate from 8 a.m.

Buses will operate from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m and the suburban railway will have no service.
