Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras and Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borisov signed a joint declaration on Thursday, laying out all the steps and timetables for two key projects: the modernisation of the railway network connecting Thessaloniki to Kavala, Alexandroupolis, Burgas, and Ruse; and a new motorway to be built between Alexandroupolis and the Maritsa region on the Greek-Bulgarian border, ANA reports.
Tsipras noted these projects were the modernisation of the railway link between Alexandroupolis, Burgas and Varna, which along with the train route Thessaloniki-Alexandroupolis “will give us a modern and fast railway network,” and a new motorway from the Greek city of Alexandroupolis to the Maritsa region on the Greek-Bulgarian border, where it will join up with the existing roads to Sofia, Varna and Burgas.
