The contract cocncerning the normalization and electrification of the single-track railway line from Isthmos to Loutraki was signed earlier today, ypodomes.com reports.
A few months earlier, ERGOSE had definitely accepted J/V Mytileneos-Xanthakis as the underbidder. The project was originally tendered in March 2018, when the winning J/V offered a discount of 47.82%. The cost was initially budgeted at 12m euros, a price that, with the discount, has been reduced to 6.39m euros.
It is noted that the railway project is financed by the Public Investments Program. The duration of the construction works has been estimated at 18 months and, putting the reopening of the line in early 2021 (a short trial operation will also be needed). The obligatory maintenance period is set at 36 months.
The rail connection between Piraeus, Athens and Loutraki stopped in 2007, following the operation of the new Athens-Korinthos-Kiato new railway axis as well as the suspension of train services on Athens-Corinth-Patras line.
The upgrade of Isthmos-Loutraki section also regards its connection to the existing high speed railway line, operating between Kiato-Corinth and the Airport. The project for the reinstatement of the line will be carried out with modern standards, meeting all European safety and interoperability requirements.
