Greek Prime Minister orders inquiry into closure of national highway

At the orders of Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, Infrastructure and Transport Minister Kostas Karamanlis and Citizen Protection Minister Michalis Chrisochoidis on Tuesday launched an inquiry into the reasons for the closure of the Athens-Lamia national highway, including demanding explanations from road operator Nea Odos, ANA reports.

The closure of the road left long tailbacks of cars stranded on the highway on Monday as holidaymakers returning to their homes found their way blocked by snow on the surface of the road, which was eventually blocked by the police until the snow could be cleared.

Citizen protection minister has also ordered that the chief of the 2nd Section of the Attica Roadways traffic police department be replaced because of the mistakes and omissions of the traffic police.
