The new road bridge of the Evinos River, reconnecting the old national road of Antirrio with Ioannina, was inaugurated on Thursday in the presence of Infrastructure & Transport Minister Christos Staikouras, ANA reports.
Staikouras said the new bridge is 254 meters long and 13.5 meters wide, was constructed in one year at the same place as the old one, and has updated resilience requirements. The project also foresees the upgrade of all necessary water works to protect the platforms and the adjustment of the river to protect the area from flooding.
The inauguration was also attended by Deputy Infrastructure & Transport Minister responsible for infrastructure Nikos Tachiaos, Western Greece Regional Governor Nektarios Farmakis, and Nafpaktia Mayor Vassilios Gizas.
Evinos bridge is part of three large projects for the Etoloakarnania prefecture, along with the Aktion-Amvrakia road (ready on January 31) and the antiflooding works and water-supply works for Amvrakia-Amfilochia and Valtos, which have been recently included in the ‘Environment and Climate Change 2021-2027’ Program, Staikouras said.
The old bridge over the Evinos River was completely destroyed in December 2021 by extreme weather.
