Funding the procurement and installation of security systems in Greek ports has been the focus of a major meeting in the Maritime Ministry under the chairmanship of Secretary General of Ports Christos Lambridis.
The meeting was attended by 26 Ports Management and Exploitation Authorities’ representatives that responded to the invitation of the General Secretariat of Ports and had submitted requests and a preliminary budget to upgrade their security systems at port facilities in their jurisdiction.
The Ports General Secretariat, being responsible for the proper implementation of the provisions of the international regulations, had asked the General Secretariat for Port Policy and Maritime Investment to ensure the possibility of funding from the NSRF Operational Programs 2014-2020.
Christos Lambridis in his statement acknowledged that the installation and operation of safety systems, in accordance with the provisions of European Regulation 725/2004 and the International ISPS Code, is a necessary condition for Greek ports to be able to accommodate cruise ships and international voyages in general.
