Cruises to Chania make a positive first impression in 2025, as they set sail for a new record of cruise ship arrivals at the port of Souda in the new year. It is noteworthy that yesterday, Sunday, February 2, 2,162 passengers flooded the city of Chania, passengers of the Celebrity Infinity, indicative of the attractiveness of the island for cruise ships and the winter months.
According to the data published by the president of the Port Fund N. Chania Dimitris Virirakis, from 1/1/2024 to 30/11/2024, 128 cruise ship arrivals were made in Souda with a total of 276,925 passengers. At the same time, there were 13 arrivals in the Venetian port of Chania throughout the year with a total of 6,001 passengers.
In total for 2024, 141 cruise ships and 282,926 passengers arrived in Chania, which is the best performance of all time for the prefecture, as noted by Mr. Virirakis. The above data show a 28.4% increase in cruise passengers and a 7.8% increase in cruise ships.
This practically means that every day, an average of 1,347 cruise visitors visit the prefecture of Chania, with what this means for the local economy of the historic center of the city.
For the new year, according to the president of the Port Fund, cruise ship arrivals will be more in Souda, based on the forecasts available to the port fund.
It is recalled that according to recent data from the Bank of Greece, in the ten months of January-October 2024, cruise revenues in Greece recorded an increase of 29.4%, reaching more than 1 billion euros for the first time.
