The Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA), the leading voice of the global cruise industry, announces a series of important presences of government officials, cruise line CEOs, and representatives of international organizations at European Cruise Week 2025, which will take place from March 12-14.

Specifically, at the CLIA European Summit, speakers will be: Apostolos Tzitzikostas, European Commissioner for Sustainable Transport and Tourism, Maja Bakran Marcich, Deputy Director-General of the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Mobility and Transmarkets (DG MOVE), Maive Rute, Deputy Director-General of the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Internal Market, Industry, Entrepreneurship, and SMEs (DG GROW), Fotini Ioannidou, Director of Waterborne Transport (DG MOVE), Christos Stylianides, Minister of Shipping and Island Policy of Greece, Marina Hatzimanoli, Deputy Minister of Shipping to the President of the Republic of Cyprus, Petri Peltonen, Deputy Minister of Economic Affairs and Employment of Finland, and Heike Deggim, Head of the Marine Environment Directorate of the International Maritime Organization (IMO).

Sam Maubanc, CLIA Director General Europe, said: “The high profile participation and strong interest are evidence that the importance of the cruise industry to European industrial innovation and maritime strategies is becoming clear. We look forward to exploring how the cruise industry can enhance the competitiveness, sustainability, and resilience of Europe’s shipping sector.”

For the first time, CEOs of European shipyards will participate in a dialogue on the importance of the cruise sector to European marine technology and shipbuilding. The CLIA Summit will also include sessions on the investments needed for the industry to achieve its net zero emissions target, drawing on CLIA’s European Investment Study, as well as discussions on the importance of a resilient and competitive tourism sector. Other sessions will include the development of sustainable marine fuels, costing models for coastal energy support, the economic and social impact of cruise tourism, the future skills needed by the industry, and a discussion on innovation and supply chain sustainability, as highlighted in CLIA’s “Made in Europe” report on the industry’s European value chain.

European Cruise Week 2025 is organized in partnership with the Municipality, the Port Authority, and the Cruise Port of Rotterdam. Major sponsors include Founding Partner RINA, returning as Presenting Sponsor, and Lloyd’s Register as Premier Sponsor.
