The importance given by the Mykonos Port Fund to the sustainable development of cruising on the island was recognized by top executives of the global cruise industry and representatives of institutions in the context of discussions at the Posidonia Sea Tourism Forum held in Heraklion, Crete, with the central theme: “The Mediterranean: Urgent Need for New Emblematic Ports and Destinations”.

The President of the Port Fund, Mr. Athanasios Kousathanas-Megas, who participated in the conference, accompanied by the Cruise Consultant, Mr. Ioannis Bra, held important contacts with leading executives from the global cruise industry, port authorities, tourism organizations, and government agencies, focusing on strategic partnerships for sustainable development.

During the discussions, Mr. Megas highlighted a number of issues, including the innovative initiatives of the Port of Mykonos for capacity management through digital tools, in order to avoid overcrowding of visitors, as well as the implementation of environmentally responsible practices in port infrastructure, contributing to the reduction of the cruise footprint on the island. New interventions were also presented that aim to increase service levels and reduce the port’s operating costs, enhancing long-term sustainability.

Mr. Megas stated:

“Mykonos is a global brand in the cruise industry, but responsibility and adaptability are the keys to the future. With strategic partnerships and innovative solutions, we seek to secure our island for the coming decades.”
