Kissamos on the cruise map – Start of procedures for anchorage

A significant step towards Kissamos’ entry into the cruise map was taken with the signing of the contract for the assignment of the study for the creation of an anchorage in the Kavonisi area. This infrastructure will allow the safe docking of large ships and cruise ships, giving a new development boost to Western Crete.

The project has already attracted strong interest from international cruise companies, as was seen at the Cruise Shipping Miami 2025 exhibition, where two large companies expressed their intention to cooperate. The goal is for the first cruise ship to dock in Kissamos by 2027, or 2028 at the latest, according to island officials.

At the same time, the contract for the maintenance of the first floor of the Central Port Authority of Chania, in Souda, was signed, with a budget of 120,000 euros from the Ministry of Shipping and Insular Policy. “It is the least we can do for the people of the Coast Guard, who perform a great and silent work for our homeland,” it was noted during the signing.
