The Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA), the leading voice of the global cruise industry, is moving forward with the next phase of its “All Aboard Greece” campaign, highlighting the stories of local communities and the industry’s progress in sustainability. At the same time, it invites the public to experience cruising in a unique way through the exhibition The Voyage, which will be hosted at the Eugenides Foundation in Athens from October to early January.
Following the campaign’s launch in July, with the successful release of the first two videos, CLIA today presents two new videos:
Local Voices – featuring officials from cruise destinations and local government representatives, including mayors and port authorities, who share their views on how cruise tourism supports local economies, creates opportunities for small businesses, and connects visitors with Greece’s cultural identity.
Sustainable Cruising – showcasing the industry’s actions to promote sustainability, including investments in cleaner energy and reducing environmental impact, environmental innovations, and sustainable tourism management practices at destinations.
Maria Deligianni, CLIA’s Eastern Mediterranean Director, stated:
“Through this second phase of our campaign, we hear the story of cruise tourism through the voices of people who play a key role in ports and local communities. Our industry is strengthening its long-term future in Greece by implementing practices that safeguard the country’s unique cultural and natural heritage.”
Among the participants in the campaign are representatives from the Ministry of Shipping and Island Policy, the MedCruise Association, the Hellenic Ports Association (ELIME), the Mayors of Mykonos and Pyrgos, the Port Authorities of Heraklion, Corfu, Piraeus, Rhodes, and Santorini, the Chambers of Commerce and Industry of the Cyclades and Piraeus, tourism professionals and suppliers, as well as academics and researchers from the University of Piraeus.
In addition to the new videos, CLIA is pleased to announce the hosting of The Voyage exhibition at the Eugenides Foundation in Athens, running from October 9 to January 9. The exhibition will take visitors on a fascinating journey into the world of cruising, with interactive elements and a focus on sustainability. Visitors will gain access to important information on cruise industry innovations and environmental progress.
Ms. Deligianni added:
“We are very pleased to join forces with the Eugenides Foundation to showcase the cruise industry’s success story in Greece in an interactive way.”
Ioannis Golias, Director of the Eugenides Foundation, said:
“We are particularly delighted to host The Voyage exhibition at the Eugenides Foundation. Through its interactive approach, the exhibition highlights the role of cruising as a driver of innovation, sustainability, and economic growth in Europe. The Eugenides Foundation has always served as a bridge connecting the public with crucial issues related to sustainable development, skills enhancement, and understanding the challenges of the modern world. Hosting the exhibition in Greece for the first time presents yet another opportunity for dialogue and awareness on the future of maritime transport and the shipping industry.”
As part of the “All Aboard Greece” campaign, CLIA is also launching a Cruise Info Hub for Greece. The information hub will be available both through the exhibition and online, providing easy access to information on cruise innovations, environmental progress, and collaborations with destinations.
CLIA is the world’s largest trade association for the cruise industry, providing a unified voice and leading authority for the global cruise community. Its members represent over 90% of global cruise passenger capacity, including the most recognized cruise lines across oceans, rivers, and specialty destinations, as well as a highly trained and certified community of travel agents, suppliers, and cruise partners in ports and destinations, shipbuilding, supplies, and business services. Together with its members and partners, CLIA supports policies and practices that promote safety, health, and sustainability in cruise operations, tourism strategies that maximize the socioeconomic benefits of cruise travel, and technologies, innovations, and practices that help cruise lines on their path toward net zero carbon emissions by 2050.
