ADR for the incident of violence on the ship ARIADNE

The Minister of Shipping and Insular Policy, Vassilis Kikilias, issued an order for a Sworn Administrative Examination (SAE) for the Port Master of Chania, as well as for the investigation of disciplinary responsibilities of the crew of the E/C-O/C ship “ARIADNE”, to the Chief of the Coast Guard – Hellenic Coast Guard, Vice Admiral L.S. Tryfonas Kontizas, following the incident of violence that occurred on the morning of Wednesday, October 22, inside the garage of the passenger – ferry ship, upon its arrival at the port of Chania.

According to a statement from the Ministry of Shipping, the EDE was ordered because the Port Master of Chania did not proceed with the required formation of a case file for the ship’s crew, nor did he immediately inform the leadership of the Ministry and the Coast Guard, as provided for by the current regulations.

Until the EDE is completed, the Port Master of Chania is removed from his duties.

The competent Port Authority has already formed a case file that will be submitted to the competent Prosecutor’s Office. The alleged perpetrator has been identified and is being sought.

The Ministry of Shipping and Insular Policy emphasizes that such behaviors are absolutely unacceptable and will not be tolerated. “The primary concern and obligation is always safety and respect for the passenger,” the ministry points out.
