The Piraeus Port Authority (PPA S.A.) declares itself ready to welcome the increased passenger traffic of the Easter period, having completed a series of upgrades to the infrastructure of the port of Piraeus.
The interventions, as stated, include the renovation of building infrastructure at passenger stations, the installation of covered waiting areas, new seats and greenery, as well as the improvement of signage, with the aim of facilitating movement and upgrading the overall passenger experience. Particular emphasis was placed on safety and smooth traffic: more than 1,700 protective bollards, dozens of warning signs, and lifesaving equipment were installed, while structural improvements were made to critical access points and piers.
Stairs and pavements in high-traffic areas, such as Akti Tzelepi, were also completely reconstructed. Significant interventions were also carried out in the Karaiskaki underground parking lot, which now has automatic management systems, new lighting, and “smart” infrastructure, while the installation of electric vehicle chargers is imminent. The markings were renewed in collaboration with the Coast Guard for better guidance of vehicles and pedestrians. An additional ambulance has been placed at the central passenger port, while patrols have been reinforced with additional personnel and vehicles, with the aim of enhancing security during the festive season.
According to PPA S.A., these initiatives are part of the Organization’s broader strategic plan and are aligned with the Ministry of Shipping and Insular Policy, reflecting the shared commitment to a modern, safe, and functional port. The aim is to continuously improve the experience of the thousands of passengers who pass through Europe’s largest passenger port daily, especially during peak periods.
While extending festive wishes to travelers, partners, and stakeholders, the Company’s Management confirms that it will continue to invest strategically in improving the services provided, strengthening the port’s position as a high-value-added hub for Greek coastal shipping and tourism.
