Original promotion actions, targeted exhibition participation and promotion in some of the most prestigious foreign media make up the efforts of the Municipality of Skopelos to enhance the extroversion of the destination.
Recently, the Municipality joined forces with Mamma Mia The Party, the popular gastronomic and music and dance show that has been going on in London for several years. As part of the collaboration, Skopelos is being promoted on multiple levels. Through a large production, island cobblestone streets, picturesque alleys, and squares that “reminisce” and refer to Skopelos are represented, while the relevant promotional and informational material of the show also refers to the destination.
In combination with Greek cuisine and the award-winning casting, the action has led to great publicity in international media that simultaneously highlights Mamma Mia, the sho,w, and the destination. In fact, the Municipality and Mamma Mia The Party organized a large online competition that had 280,000 views and reached over 220,000 social networking accounts.
Skopelos in the top choices internationally
In addition, the lace coastline of Skopelos and Mamma Mia stars in the annual list announced by the website Goodhousekeeping.com, with the ten parts of Europe that will stand out in 2025 for their dream beaches. The established entertainment medium that appeals to millions of travelers from Great Britain and the USA ranks Skopelos in 4th place, stating that “it is the quintessential Greek island with ideal proportions that perfectly match the movie Mamma Mia. Winding cobblestone streets with white and blue houses, endless views of the sparkling Aegean, seaside taverns with fresh fish, and some of the most beautiful beaches in Greece are the ingredients for a perfect vacation in Skopelos.
The sandy beaches and secluded rocky coves are surrounded by countless pine trees that seem to “touch” the sea.” The Goodhousekeeping.com list is complemented by destinations from Italy, Croatia, Morocco, Portugal, Malta and Montenegro.
“The Municipality of Skopelos is concerned with promoting itself in international markets through original actions. For this reason, we are creating the conditions for highlighting known and unknown aspects of the destination throughout the year and are implementing a program with original actions that revives the connection of the destination with Mamma Mia,” Eva Karamesini, President of the Municipality’s Tourist Committee, told Tornos News.
It is noted that Skopelos took first place among the six most impressive film locations in Greece that create unique travel experiences in the list announced recently by the French website generationvoayage.fr after a survey of its readers’ preferences.
According to the popular website, “the church of Agios Ioannis in Kastri stands emblematically on a rocky islet, offering a fascinating panorama that “embraces” the Aegean Sea. The setting was immortalized in the film adaptation of the musical Mamma Mia, transforming the impressive rock from an observatory for pirate attacks that served centuries ago, into an international attraction for couples, nature lovers, and walkers!”
