Thessaly re-enters the map of the famous Acropolis Rally after 30 years, as after successive meetings of the Governor of Thessaly Dimitris Kouretas with the representatives of the Rally, it was decided to include the Prefecture of Karditsa and specifically Lake Smokovo in this year’s race program.
In fact, all eyes will be on our region, as the last day of the race (June 29) will be held here, which will also determine the final result. More specifically, the new Smokovo special stage, 24.59 kilometers long, near the homonymous artificial lake, which is making its debut, has been added to the race calendar, as well as Tarzan, where one of the toughest special stages of the race will be held.
Satisfied with the inclusion of Thessaly in the race program, Regional Governor Dimitris Kouretas welcomed the return of the Rally to Thessaly, as its inclusion constitutes a significant challenge but also a unique opportunity to promote the region worldwide.
“Continuing the continuous and constructive cooperation that we have had from the beginning with the executives of the Acropolis Rally, in the coming period we will work hard to ensure the terms and conditions for the maximum utilization of the natural beauty of Thessaly, as well as the issue of the infrastructure required to support such a major event,” says Mr. Kouretas in his message, who thanks the representatives of the Committee and the leadership of the Ministry of Sports for the trust they have shown in the Region of Thessaly for such an emblematic event.
The routes of the EKO Rally Acropolis 2025
The EKO Rally Acropolis in 2025 returns to the period that has always characterized it: the summer. The FIA ??World Rally Council approved the program of the World Rally Championship for 2025, with the EKO Rally Acropolis being the seventh round, to be held on June 26-29, with what this may imply for the temperatures that the crews will be called upon to face.
The racing program begins with the familiar special stages in Loutraki, Agioi Theodoroi, and Thiva before moving on to Neo Steiri and then to Elateia for the first day of the race. Afterwards, the crews will be tested on the demanding routes of Pavliani, Karoutes, and Oinochori in a setting that combines intense elevation changes and different levels of grip. The final day of the race brings a big challenge with the new Smokovo special stage in Thessaly, while the Wolf Power Stage will be held on Tarzan, one of the toughest stages of the race, which is expected to decide the final result.
