On the occasion of World Bicycle Day, on Tuesday, June 3, 2025, the Municipality of Rethymno invites residents and visitors to a special bicycle tour of the city’s monuments.
The meeting point will be the Delfini Building at 23 Sofoklis Venizelou Street at 17:00. The “bike ride” will start at 17:30 and will last approximately one hour.
The action is carried out within the framework of the cooperation between the Department of Tourism and the Planning Department of the Municipality, and is part of its broader policies for sustainable mobility, the promotion of cultural heritage, and the enhancement of the visitor experience.
As part of the event, a limited number of electric bicycles will be available, with reservations until Monday, June 2nd and 12:00 pm at tourism@rethymno.gr.
The action will be combined with a Pilot operation of the new automated shared electric bicycle system.
In particular, the Municipality of Rethymno is in the final stretch to fully operate the new automated shared electric bicycle system, which was included and is being implemented within the framework of the NSRF 2014 – 2020.
The system includes 44 electric bicycles, which will be available soon, at stations that have already been placed in selected parts of the city. The operation begins on a pilot basis, with the aim of optimizing services and their smooth integration into the everyday lives of citizens and visitors.
Each user, after a simple certification process, will be able to rent a bicycle for use up to three (3) hours per day. The system has been designed with ease of access, sustainability, and the enhancement of alternative transportation in mind.
