Sifnos, the island with a strong Cycladic color, is known for its special pottery, natural beauty, and unique gastronomic offerings. From the weekend of Saturday 14 and Sunday 15 June, the conditions are being created for it to become a sports destination through SiFNaThLoN, an initiative of the Municipality of Sifnos.
Starting from the beautiful beach of Platys Gialos, dozens of swimmers will compete in various distances (3 km, 1.5 km and 300 m for children under 12 years old), while the first day’s program will be closed by the children’s running races, a distance of 1 km for primary and high school students, which will be held on the coastal road.
Sunday, June 15, belongs exclusively to runners, as 5 and 10 km running races will be held, with the starting and finishing points being the EAKN (Maroussa) sports center in Apollonia. The demanding route, which has unique beauty, will move towards Artemonas, cross the picturesque streets of the settlement, and return to Apollonia, where, following the ring road, it will end at the starting point. Among the participants, emblematic Olympic and Olympian athletes, as well as Greek champions and other outstanding personalities of the running and swimming movement, who are a source of inspiration for young and old, will be present.
Registrations have opened and are being made through the event website sifnathlon.gr, where interested parties will be able to be informed about the announcement of the games and all the news of the event.
The race is organized by the Municipality of Sifnos, with the Association of Participants in Olympic Games (ESOA) as co-organizer and technical advisor, with SiFNaThLoN being the first official joint action within the framework of the Memorandum of Cooperation signed by the Mayor of Sifnos, Maria Emm. Nadal with the institutional collective body of our country’s emblematic Olympians athletes, last October.
