The historic Acropolis Rally 2026 strengthens thematic tourism in Greece

Greece is hosting for the fourth consecutive year an internationally prestigious event that combines motorsports with thematic tourism, as the Historic Acropolis Rally, which will be the opening round of the European Historic Car Rally Championship (FIA) on May 23 and 24, 2026.

This is an institution that highlights Greece not only as a country with a long tradition in motor racing, but also as a tourist destination of experience, as the rally routes constitute an “advertisement” of Greek nature, hospitality and the historical continuity of the place. At this point, it should be emphasized that the event, which was reborn in 2022 and joined the European calendar from 2023, attracts dozens of crews from all over Europe, accompanied by engineers, support teams and visitors, creating significant tourist mobility and stimulating the local economy.

Greece at the forefront of thematic tourism

The Historic Acropolis Rally is now part of a new network of FIA actions, which separates the European championships into gravel and asphalt, with the Greek race opening the curtain on the gravel institution. This fact demonstrates the international federation’s confidence in the Greek infrastructure, the organizational adequacy and the natural beauty of the routes, which are considered among the most demanding and emblematic on the European map.

The event is expected to act as a multiplier of tourism promotion for the areas through which the crews will pass, enhancing sports and cultural tourism. It is characteristic that visitors who follow the rally are not only looking for the sound of the engines, but also the experiences of the Greek countryside, local gastronomy and traditional settlements.

From the Acropolis to Europe – a calendar of speed and experiences

After Greece, the event will continue in Portugal (June 19-20), Finland (August 20-22), Sweden (August 28-29) and will conclude in Italy with the Rally del Brunello Storico on November 27-28, 2026.

Our country’s participation at the top of the European calendar confirms the multifaceted role of Greek tourism in international events, which combine tradition with experiential experience.

Moreover, through the Historic Acropolis Rally, it is proven that tourism is not only beach and sun — it is also culture, movement, history and passion, all together in a race that continues to write its own path in Europe.
