The European Commission is offering 40,000 young people a unique opportunity to explore Europe through DiscoverEU, an Erasmus+ action, to mark the 40th anniversary of the Schengen area.
To apply for the travel card, young people born between 1 January 2007 and 31 December 2007 must complete a short quiz about the European Union (EU) on the European Youth Portal. Those who pass will be able to travel free of charge for up to 30 days between 1 March 2026 and 31 May 2027 and will receive a discount card for public transport, cultural venues, accommodation, food, sports and other services in 36 European countries.
Those who get the tickets can create their own routes or be inspired by existing ones, such as the New European Bauhaus route, which includes stops in beautiful, sustainable and inclusive cities, according to the New European Bauhaus initiative.
Another route is the DiscoverEU green route, which takes young travellers to some of the most sustainable and nature-friendly destinations across the continent, such as the European Green Capital and European Green Leaf award-winning cities or cities leading the mission to become climate-neutral and smart cities. DiscoverEU’s green travel tips help participants plan their green journeys.
The DiscoverEU call for applications opened today at 13:00 and will run until 13 November 2025 at 13:00 (Cyprus time). Young people from the European Union and third countries associated with the Erasmus+ programme are eligible to apply. Participants with disabilities or health problems will be supported for their travel, in line with the values ??of the Erasmus+ programme and the DiscoverEU Integration Action. Support may include the ability to travel with companions.
