2,965 inspections were carried out from June to mid-July by Coast Guard officers at recreational vehicle rental businesses, and 265 violations were confirmed, while fines of 79,760 euros were imposed in accordance with the provisions of the Port Code 20. These inspections are part of the broader plan of intensified supervision and security implemented by the Ministry of Shipping and Insular Policy.
At the same time, regarding the lifeguard coverage on the 663 busy beaches of the country, more than 99% have already been checked, with 89% of the beaches having an established and active lifeguard presence. This is one of the highest performances in recent years, the result of systematic coordination, continuous pressure on the bodies involved and targeted interventions.
“Safety at sea and on the beaches is not only an obligation, it is a matter of public responsibility. We are not complacent, we do not make discounts. With intensive checks, clear instructions and rapid implementation of the plan, we ensure that the summer of Greeks and our visitors is safe and functional”, emphasizes the Minister of Shipping and Island Policy Vasilis Kikilias, noting that the Ministry remains on operational alert throughout the tourist season.
