How to decongest the historic port of Nafpaktos

The Municipal Port Fund and the Municipality of Nafpaktos are seeking to secure funding for the construction of a port facility in Varia and have already initiated procedures in this direction.

It is noted that the project is of particular importance for Nafpaktos. The purpose of the project is to decongest and promote the historic port of Nafpaktos while ensuring a satisfactory infrastructure for serving maritime tourism with pleasure boats, through a project harmoniously integrated into the natural and man-made environment of Nafpaktos.

The promotion of the top historical and most recognizable monument of the city of Nafpaktos, which is included in the cultural routes of emblematic archaeological sites of the Ministry of Culture, began with the consolidation and restoration of the central section of the Venetian Port of Nafpaktos.

The Nafpaktos area is not included as a destination in the program of visits of passing pleasure boats due to the practically non-existent infrastructure. As a result of the incomplete infrastructure, a significant number of tourist boats, not having the possibility of docking and refueling, move away from Nafpaktos to other destinations.

The creation of Port Vessel Service Facilities at the location of Varia in Nafpaktos, has as an additional objective the upgrade of the provided docking services for pleasure boats with the construction of a modern shelter, in order to upgrade Nafpaktos, in cooperation with local bodies, as a pole of attraction for maritime tourism.

With the creation of the port facility for tourist boats, Nafpaktos will be able to offer high quality services to pleasure boats that approach the area. Given the ever-increasing dependence of the development of the local economy on tourism and mainly on maritime tourism, it is obvious that there will be very significant benefits from the creation of the port facility for the tourism development of the wider area, achieving the initial goal of decongesting and highlighting the historic port of Nafpaktos.
