Greek “Opa! Fest” celebrates 25th anniversary in Troy, Michigan

For the 25th year, Opa! Fest in Troy, Michigan is bringing the top of Greek culture and food to the locals.

This famous Greek festival is set to be held this year over three-days this weekend (Friday – Sunday), at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, 760 W. Wattles Road, in Troy.

Opa Fest always enchants its visitors with Greek music, traditional folk-dancing and food as well as goods for sale at the marketplace.

The cooking stage will provide demonstrations of classic Greek foods, and cook-off competitions on Saturday and Sunday. There are also pastry shops that will be serving traditional sweets such as kourambiethes, koulourakia and baklava.

You can even take a tour of the church and take part in a presentation of Greek culture and Eastern Orthodox Christianity while at the festivities.

Another feature at the festival this year will be Greek chef, nutritionist and health expert Stella Metsovas who will be discussing and signing her book, Wild Mediterranean: The Age-old, Science-new Plan for a Healthy Gut, with Food You Can Trust. She will also be demoing her “baklava butter”.

Metsovas will be at the festival from 7:30-9:30 pm on Friday and 5-8 pm on Saturday.

Admission to Opa Fest is $2 for adults or you can donate three canned goods, which will benefit Gleaners Community Food Bank of Southeastern Michigan while Admission for children under 12, is free.

Free parking with shuttle service is also available from Walsh College on Livernois (southwest of Wattles Road).
