Thessaloniki museums join forces to promote the city

The Thessaloniki Tourism Organization (TTO) is moving forward with a dynamic initiative to promote Thessaloniki as a top cultural destination, inaugurating a series of consultations with representatives of the city’s museums. This action is the natural evolution of a multi-year and creative collaboration and aims to formulate joint strategies for the tourist exploitation of Thessaloniki’s rich cultural heritage.

The first meeting took place at the Organization’s premises, where the CEO of the Olympic Museum of Thessaloniki and General Director of TTO, Dr. Kyriaki Oudadzi, exchanged views with the President of the Center for the Dissemination of Science and the Museum of Technology and Director of Research of CERTH, Dr. Styliani Bezergianni, as well as with the Director of the Museum of the Macedonian Struggle, Ms. Athena Pavlidou (photo).

The central focus of the consultation was the exploration of ways of cooperation to enhance the city’s cultural extroversion. The discussions focused on the creation of a broad collaborative network between museum institutions, with proposed joint actions, such as the creation of thematic cultural routes, the publication of unified tourist guides, and the development of digital applications to highlight the museums of Thessaloniki.

As the participants emphasized, this partnership comes to fill a significant gap in the field of unified cultural promotion of the city, at a time when museum tourism is gaining ground internationally as an alternative form of quality tourism.

The next meetings are expected to further strengthen the cooperation between the cultural institutions of Thessaloniki, leading to specific joint initiatives that will strengthen the city’s tourist profile and attract new visitors, from Greece and abroad.
