The Ministry of Culture, the Region of Attica, the Municipality of Athens, the Organization of Culture, Sports and Youth of the Municipality of Athens and TECHNOPOLIS – GAZI S.A. will cooperate – as provided for in a relevant program agreement – for the planning and implementation of new and existing cultural and educational actions in Athens.
As mentioned in this regard, the period 2022 to 2024 was a three-year period of recovery from the difficult period of the pandemic that had significant negative impacts on the cultural sector. Throughout this period, increased needs were identified in the field of production and promotion of culture, while at the same time the need for coordinated planning and a unified cultural identity was recorded as inalienable, as there is a wide range of organizations and companies that promote Culture in its entire spectrum. In this context, the Municipality of Athens continues to support the Cultural Sector and the Education of citizens and visitors.
Among other things, the main objectives of the Municipality of Athens are:
-the promotion of culture as a means of supporting and developing artistic creation and attracting visitors,
-the support of civil society that promotes their active participation, volunteering, and the general improvement of the quality of life,
-the support of specific social groups such as children, young people, and women through events tailored to their needs,
-the improvement of accessibility for people with disabilities in public spaces and mainly in cultural spaces,
-the information and awareness-raising of citizens and visitors, as well as actions to address social phenomena,
-The education and awareness-raising of citizens and visitors on issues related to environmental protection and the principles of sustainable development.
Taking into account these objectives, the events and all the actions that are the subject of the program agreement, intend to contribute to their implementation and are grouped into the following three axes:
1st axis – Culture, Education and Society: Regarding Culture, this specific axis initially aims at redesigning and strengthening existing cultural actions and events as well as at designing and implementing new ones, to strengthen the cultural heritage of the Municipality. Regarding Education and Society, the axis aims at strengthening and establishing educational events that are addressed to the general public and vulnerable social groups with the aim of raising awareness among citizens and visitors on social, cultural and environmental issues.
2nd axis – Accessibility and Functionality Interventions of Spaces: The axis aims to improve physical and digital accessibility in the Technopolis areas and to improve the functionality of other areas of the municipality.
3rd axis – Communication Actions: The third axis aims to implement a communication program with the aim of effectively disseminating unified information to the general public and visitors to the city.
The purpose of the contract is for Technopolis to become a landmark of the Municipality of Athens that will contribute decisively to the achievement of the aforementioned goals through the cultural and educational events it plans. In this context, the contract describes the objectives and types of cultural and educational events, the necessary building interventions to improve accessibility, and the communication plan planned for the period 07/2025-06/2028 in the spaces managed by Technopolis, as well as the relevant financial resources required for their implementation. Based on the programmatic contract, the Municipality of Athens will allocate the necessary financial resources.
The vision and objectives of Technopolis are in line with the objectives of the Municipality of Athens, as the design and hosting of events of an entertaining, educational, social, and cultural nature that improve the quality of life of residents and visitors of the city constitute the core of its operation. In addition, inclusion, awareness of social issues, and accessibility are also characteristics of the design and general operation of Technopolis.
Technopolis is a point of reference for the city’s residents and visitors, hosting over 1,000,000 visitors each year in its spaces, a fact that proves its successful course from 1999 to the present.
