In a new “smart” way, the municipality of Chania aspires to protect the Venetian port and its foreign visitors, who enjoy one of the most emblematic places of the prefecture every day. These are the 11 new submersible, hydraulic barriers, which will be placed in parts of the old town and the Venetian port of Chania, with the aim of preventing the access of unauthorized motorized vehicles while also providing an automatic recognition system for unhindered access of security vehicles (fire engines, ambulances, patrol cars, etc.).
It should be emphasized that Chania has become a popular destination for couples from abroad who want to have their wedding there. In particular, the old port of Chania, with its iconic Lighthouse, and Chania in general, combine the traditional Cretan atmosphere with the natural beauty of the place, making it an ideal destination for weddings.
Consequently, such initiatives to protect the Venetian port from any unscrupulous activity come to add added value to the tourist products that the municipality wants to promote.
