Lesvos is preparing to welcome from October 10 to 13 the 39th Panhellenic Meeting of Cooperation Groups of the Hellenic Guiding Association, in an event that combines the celebration of volunteering with the promotion of the local identity and tourism potential of the island. This year’s meeting coincides with the important anniversary of the 80th year of operation of the Local Department of Mytilene, giving a special symbolism to the events.
More than 120 members of the Cooperation Groups from 46 regions of the country will be in Lesvos to participate in actions that strengthen volunteerism, enhance social cohesion and cultivate intercultural dialogue. The choice of the island as a hosting location is not accidental: Lesvos has a rich mosaic of natural beauty, tradition and gastronomy, which, combined with the hospitality of the inhabitants, creates the ideal environment for extroversion and creative learning actions.
The North Aegean Region actively supports the organization, hosting opinion leaders to highlight Lesvos as a destination that combines holidays and volunteering. This initiative aims to diversify the island’s tourism product, emphasizing experiences that connect the traveler with the local community and culture.
At the same time, the Hellenic Scouting Association is planning the inclusion of the islands of the North Aegean in the pan-Hellenic planning of actions for the next two years, while it will also propose at the European level, through the International Scout and Guide Fellowship, their promotion as destinations in pan-European programs. In this way, the island complex is expected to gain new momentum in its tourist identity, attracting visitors who are looking for experiential experiences beyond the classic vacation model.
Lesvos, through this meeting, confirms its role as a place that unites people, cultivates values and opens new paths in experiential and volunteer tourism.
