Antonis Pagonis | Protest against the closure of the ELTA branch in Oia

The president of the Santorini Hoteliers Association, Antonis Pagonis, expresses his strong reaction to the closure of the Hellenic Post Office (ELTA) branch in Oia in a letter of protest to the ELTA Administration.

Mr. Pagonis describes the decision as “heartbreaking”, noting that the Oia post office has a history of over 40 years and serves both permanent residents and thousands of visitors to the island. “It is the obligation of all of us to stand against this unjust closure”, he emphasizes, adding that the Santorini Hoteliers Association supports the struggle of the local community and the Municipality of Thira to preserve the branch.

The president points out that “in 2025 it is not simply a choice of some whether to keep the post office in operation, but their obligation towards a society that for years has been treated as a “fat cow” for the state, without any reciprocity”.

In closing, Mr. Pagonis calls on the ELTA Administration to review the decision, underlining the need to respect decentralization and insularity: “No more degradation of our lives”, he concludes.
