A new, comprehensive strategy for the sustainable development of Pserimos is being initiated by the Municipality of Kalymnos, in collaboration with the Sustainable Islands Network (DAFNI), aiming to enhance residents quality of life and upgrade the island into a modern and sustainable destination.
The strategy is being prepared according to the specifications for Integrated Territorial Investments (ITI) of the NSRF Programs and will be aligned with the European initiatives Clean Energy for EU Islands, Smart Islands, as well as the national initiative GR-eco Islands, while also utilizing the potential for inclusion in the South Aegean Regional Program and other relevant funding tools.
The Municipalitys goal is to leverage the strategy to attract resources and implement actions that will upgrade the islands infrastructure and services. Particular emphasis will be placed, among other areas, on potable water management, improving health, education, and welfare infrastructure, upgrading port facilities and transportation, protecting and showcasing natural and cultural assets, and strengthening the local economy through innovative technologies and smart solutions.
The development of the strategy will take place with the active participation of the local community, ensuring that the final actions reflect the true needs and prospects of the island. The methodology will include mapping the current situation, analyzing weaknesses and strengths, designing and prioritizing policies, as well as a monitoring and evaluation system for the interventions.
The project is overseen by a joint committee of the Municipality of Kalymnos and DAFNI, while the Network is expected to play a decisive role, having significant expertise and experience from similar projects on small Greek islands with Kythnos Smart Island being the most characteristic example.
With this initiative, Pserimos is preparing to take a meaningful step toward a new era of sustainable and resilient development, guided by residents needs and the modern challenges of island life.
