Athens metro stations “Omonia”, “Panepistimio”, “Syntagma”, “Monastiraki”, “Evangelismos”, “Akropolis” and “Syngrou-Fix” shut down early on Thursday morning until further notice, the police said on Wednesday, for security reasons related to Greek Independence Day events, ANA reports.
The tram-trains to and from Syntagma will change terminal station to Kasomouli station in Neos Kosmos.
Meanwhile, the urban railroad (Proastiakos) schedules to the airport have been adjusted for security reasons as foreign dignitaries will be attending events related to the anniversary.
The suburban trains (Proastiakos) will use ‘Koropi’ as departure/terminal station on the following days and times:
– Wednesday (March 24): 13.45-14.15, 17.20-17.50, 21.45-22.15
– Thursday (March 25): 12.15-12.45, 14.15-15.45
– Friday (March 26): 20.15-20.45
On Wednesday, the metro stations “Evangelismos” and “Megaro Mousikis” were shut from 16:30 due to the inauguration event of the new building of the National Gallery in the presence of VIP guests. The trains will pass through without stopping until later in the evening.
Also, according to STASY (fixed rail transport), by order of the police, the services to the Athens International Airport departing from Nikea at 13:01, 13:31, 16:31, 17:01, 21:01, and 21:31 will be canceled, as will the return services from Athens International Airport to Nikea departing at 14:02, 14:32, 17:32 and 22:02.
