A significant increase is recorded in validations and fare collections on public transport in Attica and Thessaloniki. As for Attica, according to OASA data, in January 2025, validations across all transport operators amounted to 25,368,522, compared to 22,961,586 in the same month in 2024 (an increase of 10.48%) and 21,802,866 in 2023 (an increase of 16.36%), respectively.
Therefore, total receipts in January 2025 amounted to 16,340,524.98 euros, compared to 14,258,744.99 euros (January 2024) and 13,153,159.84 euros (January 2023).
This was achieved following a series of initiatives, such as the implementation of the contactless payment system, the readjustment of Metro routes which increased capacity, the increase in suburban routes, the addition of a total of 405 new vehicles to the bus fleet, the increase in inspections, but also the general increase in passenger mobility.
In Thessaloniki, based on OSETH data, in January 2025, the percentage increase compared to the corresponding first month of 2024 reached 39%, with the increase in validations on OASTH lines reaching 40%, while the corresponding increase in validations on lines operated by KTEL at 38%.
Specifically, in January 2025:
720,810 tickets were validated on OASTH lines.
326,204 tickets were validated on lines operated by KTEL.
The total number of validations reaches 1,047,014.
