Municipality of Heraklion: 45 bicycles for free use by citizens

With the aim of introducing cycling into the everyday life of citizens within the urban fabric, the Municipality of Heraklion has strengthened its existing fleet with 20 new bicycles and now has a total of 45 bicycles for free use, from two stations: At Pyli Iosushi (Monday – Friday 08:00-14:00) and at Karavola (Monday – Friday 14:00-20:00).

As stated by the Deputy Mayor for Sports & Athletics and President of Heraklion AAH SA Local Government Yannis Tsapakis, the initiative aims to serve those who want to approach the city and take their ride on a bicycle, emphasizing: “It is encouraging to see more and more citizens and visitors to our city trying out the bicycle for their transportation. The friendliest means that can contribute to achieving the sustainability of cities”.

For the free use of bicycles, interested parties must present a public identification document (ID, diploma, or passport) at the stations. For minors under 16 years of age, the accompaniment of a parent or guardian is required.

It is recalled that 66 electric bicycles were recently put into use by the Municipality of Heraklion through an automatic free rental system. The use of the system concerns citizens over eighteen (18) years of age, is done exclusively by using the easybike Heraklion mobile application, which is available on the iOS and Android platforms and the service is available daily from 07:00 to 22:00.
