This Is Athens City Festival celebrates World Car-Free Day

On the occasion of World Car-Free Day, This Is Athens City Festival transforms Athinas Street on September 20 and 21 into a large outdoor celebration. Residents and visitors will have the opportunity to experience the center of Athens in terms of sustainability, enjoying games, music and free movement in a car-free area, discovering the city differently.

For 24 hours, from the evening of Saturday, September 20 to the evening of Sunday, September 21, the busy street – from the height of Evripidou to Monastiraki – free from motorized vehicles, will be filled with cultural, educational, entertainment and creative activities, which will highlight the sustainable character of the destination.

The “Athens Without a Car” initiative, organized for the 2nd year this year by the Athens Municipality Festival through Development Athens, gives residents and visitors the opportunity to see the center of the capital from a different perspective: as a place of meeting, play, music and free movement, a place that breathes differently and shows the way to a more humane and sustainable city, but also as a destination for visitors through the promotion of innovative experiences and the exploitation of Athens’ cultural heritage.

The actions are implemented within the framework of the Project “Actions to promote, strengthen and promote tourism in the Municipality of Athens”/Subproject 1, which is part of the NSRF Program “Attica 2021-2027”, OPS 6018475 and is co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund.
