From Piraeus, which will serve as its homeport, Viking Libra, the luxurious, newly built, small-sized “boutique” cruise ship of the Viking company, will begin its maiden voyage in 2026.
After its delivery to the company, the new cruise ship will welcome its first guests in Piraeus on December 3, 2026.
On its first voyage, titled “Greek Odyssey”, it will offer a ten-night cruise to the Greek islands and Turkey, with calls at the ports of Volos, Thessaloniki, Kusadasi, Rhodes, Santorini, Chania and Nafplio and then return to Piraeus.
After the first “Greek Odyssey” cruise (10 days, December 3-13, 2026), Viking Libra will depart again from Piraeus on December 13, 2026, offering two options:
-7-day cruise from Piraeus to Rome (Civitavecchia).
-14-day cruise from Piraeus to Barcelona (essentially an extension of the 7-day, with more destinations).
The ship will then offer itineraries in the western Mediterranean, and in early January 2027, it will move to Northern Europe.
What will the new cruise ship be like
The 54,300-ton Viking Libra is the second new ship the company is using, after the Viking Mira.
Libra is currently under construction at the Italian shipyard Fincantieri and will be the 17th new building delivered to the company since 2015.
Its construction cost is estimated at 410 million euros. It has 998 berths, 10 decks, 499 cabins, and 6 cabin decks.
Two more new ships in 2025 and 2026
In addition to Viking Libra, the company is due to take delivery of the 998-passenger new building Viking Mira in June 2026, which will enter service in time for next year’s summer season. With its maiden voyage scheduled for June, the ship will offer cruises in the Mediterranean before repositioning to Northern Europe.
New Viking Vesta Approaches Corfu
In July 2025, Viking also welcomes Viking Vesta, which is set to begin its maiden season in early July. Vesta will approach the port of Corfu on July 6, as part of a 12-day cruise from Venice to Barcelona, ??departing on July 2, 2025 and ending on July 14.
