Souda continues to consolidate its position as one of the leading cruise ports in Greece and the Mediterranean, recording an impressive increase in arrivals and passengers. In the first eight months of 2025, a total of 133 cruise ships with 265,971 passengers were recorded, with the majority of traffic concentrated in Souda. 117 ships docked there, carrying 260,000 passengers, while the Venetian Port of Chania welcomed 16 ships with 5,971 passengers.
These figures demonstrate the dynamic development of the region as a cruise destination. Compared to the corresponding period in 2024, when Souda welcomed 80 ships with 179,135 passengers and the Venetian Port 9 ships with 4,309 passengers (total 89 ships and 183,444 passengers), the increase reaches 49.4% in the number of ships and 45% in passengers.
This trend is expected to continue in 2026, with planned arrivals of new companies and cruise ships, which further strengthens Souda’s position on the international cruise map. The destination Chania, combining historical monuments, picturesque ports and authentic Cretan hospitality, is now becoming not only a favorite of travelers, but also strategically important for the development of the Greek tourism economy.
Souda proves that Greece is not only a magnet for classic holidays, but also an important hub for international cruising, attracting visitors from all over the world and leaving clear signs of a new era for tourism in Chania and the Mediterranean.
