A recent visit to Thessaloniki by a large municipal and business delegation from Izmir, the major port city in western Turkey, renewed hopes that a ferry boat link will be established between the two destinations.
The Izmir delegation was led by the city’s mayor Aziz Kocaoglu.
In statements, Izmir chamber president Ekrem Demirtas and the president of the maritime trade chamber Yusuf Ozturk said the sea route is economically viable, with a potential of 40,000 passengers a year from Turkey to Thessaloniki and the EU.
