The Panhellenic Seamen’s Federation (PNO) announced Tuesday that its members will join a 24-hour strike that the private sector workers’ union, GSEE, has called for May 8, in protest at planned reforms to the pension system.
The walkout, which will leave ferries moored in ports across the country, is in addition to the 48-hour strike the PNO has already clarified it will hold when the government’s pension reform bill goes to Parliament’s plenary session for a debate and vote.
The strike will begin at 00:01 and end at 24:00. The private sector Federation Union GSEE is holding the strike in protest of Sunday shopping hours (eight Sundays a year).
