Divers will examine the hull of the Panagia Tinou ferry boat, which took in water on Tuesday, causing it to tilt 40 degrees. The aim is to discover where the hull has breached, in order to patch it up and begin pumping out water from the ship.
Although divers tried to inspect the hull on Tuesday, the visibility in the port was extremely limited and it is believed that the ferry boat has run aground.
Meanwhile floating anti-pollution barriers have been set up, as there appears to be some fuel in the ferry boat that could potentially leak out into the sea.
Cleaning crews form Antipollution have spread 400 meters of floating booms to contain possible sea pollution from petrol liquid spills.
In the meanwhile, protothema.gr impressive drone footage shows the half-sunk ‘Panagia Tinos’ ship docked at pier E4 at the port of Piraeus.
After the efforts of tug boats and divers the vessel is partially balanced, allowing mechanics to board the ship and repair the ruptured parts and then pump water out.
After the water has been completely removed from the ship’s hull, it will be tugged away.
