ICAP: Greek passenger shipping market down 32% since 2008

Greece’s coastal shipping sector has reportedly been in a tailspin over the last few years, according to a report released this past week by the ICAP group.

The study focuses on island-mainland routes, the Greece-Italy lines and the short ferry routes between two mainland harbors separated by a narrow strait.

Over the last seven-year period the Greece-based coastal shipping sector decreased by 32 percent, whereas between 2008 and 2014 the maritime transport sector had 7.8 million less passengers, and 2.9 million less vehicles transported, the study noted.
