The Greek Seamen’s Federation (PNO) has declared a new 48-hour strike in all ship categories starting from from 6 am on Friday, December 2, until 6 am on Sunday, December 4 and warned that the two-day strike may herald the beginning of a rolling programme of industrial action.
PNO recently announced another strike for Thursday, December 8 in protest against a possible increase in their income tax.
The Federation underlined that changes to the taxation of seafarers has been included in talks between Athens and creditors in order to close the second bailout review and, therefore, Greek seamen are in danger of losing their special tax regime and being taxed up to 45%.
Its statement claimed that in such an event “the seamen industry will be forced to extinction.”
