Ferry boat 'Myrtidiotissa' adrift between Evia and Fthiotida in Greece

The passenger/car ferry “Myrtidiotissa” was left floating adrift in the Artemisio strait, between northern Evia and the coast of Fthiotida, after its engines failed on Friday, with 53 people on board (21 passengers, 32 crew).

Two coast guard vessels, a speed boat and two fishing boats are in the vicinity and have set up tow lines with the “Myrtidiotissa” to prevent it being carried away by currents. Two tug boats are now expected that that will tow the ferry back to the harbour of Agios Konstantinos. Weather conditions in the area are good, with light northeasterly winds of 3-4 Beaufort.

The ferry had set sail from Agios Konstantinos harbour at 13:00 bound for Skiathos, Skopelos and Alonissos.
