Broad meeting to accelerate seaplanes – Approval for Donoussa & Oinousses

Significant developments are being recorded in the development of seaplanes in Greece, as procedures are progressing both at the institutional and operational levels.

Recently, at the initiative of the Governor of the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), Mr. Christos Tsitouras, a broad working meeting was held with the participation of all the relevant departments of the CAA. The meeting was a milestone in the coordination of the procedures for the acceleration and rational regulation of the operating framework of seaplanes in our country.

During the meeting, the outstanding issues in the institutional and operational framework were discussed, and coordinated actions were decided in order to complete the licensing procedures and to put the seaplane network into full operation soon.

At the same time, Hellenic Seaplanes announces the licensing of two new destinations, Donoussa in the Cyclades and Oinousses in the North Aegean, which are added to the expanding seaplane network, offering new travel options to residents and visitors of the islands.

After the meeting, the Governor of the Civil Aviation Authority, Mr. Christos Tsitouras, stated:

“The Civil Aviation Authority actively supports the development effort for seaplanes, ensuring that all procedures are implemented with safety, transparency, and absolute compliance with international and European standards. Our goal is to contribute, in cooperation with all stakeholders, so that Greece acquires a modern and reliable seaplane network that will strengthen island transport and tourism development.”

The President and CEO of Hellenic Seaplanes, Mr. Nicholas Charalambous, stated:

“The initiative of the Civil Aviation Authority to coordinate the involved bodies constitutes a decisive step for the seaplane project to move to the stage of full operation. Hellenic Seaplanes, having led this effort for a number of years, continues to expand its operational plan, with the new licensing in Donoussa and Oinousses constituting another decisive step towards the implementation of our strategic goal: the creation of a safe, flexible and quality seaplane network that will serve the island of Greece and strengthen the national tourism product.”

With these latest developments, the continuous efforts of all the bodies involved, the complex administrative dialogue, and the persistent investment marathon are now taking shape, gradually leading to the beginning of a new chapter in the air and island transport of our country.

Hellenic Seaplanes is consistently moving forward with the implementation of a comprehensive national network of seaplane destinations, which aspires to offer:

  • new transportation options for residents, visitors, and tourists,
  • strengthening the interconnection of inaccessible island areas,
  • support for emergency needs (health transport, civil protection, etc.),
  • upgrading the Greek tourism product, diversifying it towards new forms of experience and quality.
  • New jobs

The progress of the project reflects the size of the investment and the strategic commitment of Hellenic Seaplanes, which, for 11 consecutive years, has kept the project active on the agenda of public debate, safeguarding investment interest and steadily promoting the need to develop the seaplane network in the country. At the same time, it has already made significant investments in the acquisition and equipment of aircraft, the completion of demanding licensing procedures, the development of infrastructure, and the certified training of human resources.
