An invitation to members of the international community of sea tourism to invest in Greece was issued by political leaders at the Shipping and Tourism Ministries during the World Marinas Conference on “Cross Sea Challenges for Marinas: Setting the Scene for Collective Development and Growth”, held by the International Council of Marine Industry Associations (ICOMIA) and hosted by the Greek Marinas Union, ANA reports.
In the conference, organized in Greece for the first time, Shipping Minister Fotis Kouvelis stressed that his ministry is actively encouraging investments in marinas and noted that a law on investments in shipping that resolves obstacles will be drafted by mid-November. The development of the ports from now on will be achieved through sub-concession procedures.
He also noted that procedures for changing classification of vessels into a professional use had been simplified in 2017, the year that the chartering of Greek-flagged vessels increased by 100 percent.
On her part, Tourism Minister Elena Kountoura underlined that Greece is the ideal destination for pleasure boats. She also reiterated the high performance of Greek tourist inflow in the last years and referred to the increase of tourism arrivals by 25 percent in the last three years and of tourism revenues by 15 percent in 2018.
