The Municipality of Kalamaria is filing a new appeal to the Council of State regarding Aretsou Marina, following the publication of the Joint Ministerial Decision (JMD) that advances the concession tender process.
The Municipal Committee, following a proposal by the Mayor of Kalamaria Chrysa Arapoglou, decided unanimously and with an urgent procedure to submit a request for cancellation and suspension of execution of the Joint Ministerial Decision signed by the Minister and the Deputy Minister of Environment and Energy and the Minister of Tourism, which establishes and approves the environmental conditions of the Aretsou Marina.
This decision constitutes a first institutional and political response to a provocative action that bypasses the decisions of both the Municipal Council of Kalamaria and the Metropolitan Committee of Thessaloniki of the Region of Central Macedonia as well as the local community.
The Joint Ministerial Decision specifies the Presidential Decree of 2023, against which the Municipality has already appealed to the Council of State. Nevertheless, the government chose to proceed with its publication before the issuance of the court decision, an action that the Municipal Authority characterizes as unacceptable, anti-institutional and offensive to the Municipality and the citizens of Kalamaria.
The new appeal is deemed necessary, as the ministerial decision reproduces without any substantial change the Environmental Impact Study, for which the Municipality had already expressed clear and documented objections.
On Thursday evening, the Mayor of Kalamaria Chrysa Arapoglou convened a broad meeting at the City Hall on the latest developments surrounding the Aretsous Marina. The meeting was attended by the heads of the municipal factions, as well as the presidents and representatives of the associations that make up the Network for the Protection of the Coastal Front.
During the discussion, in which it became clear that everyone disagreed with the decision and actions of the HRADF, it was decided to react immediately with legal and dynamic mobilizations. Among other things, to hold a special meeting of the Municipal Council on 3/11 in a large hall, to request a meeting with the Minister of Finance as the political head of the Superfund, as well as to carry out actions to inform citizens about the issue that will determine the future of Kalamaria.
