Several ferry sailings were cancelled across Greece on Friday due to strong southerly winds, reaching speeds of up to 9 Beaufort in places.
Among cancelled ferry sailings were that of the passenger/car ferry “Dionysios Solomos” from Piraeus port to the islands of Kythnos, Serifos, Sifnos, Milos, Kimolos, Folegandros, Sikinos, Ios and Thira.
Ferry companies have also cancelled hydrofoil sailings in the Saronic Gulf, near Athens, while closed-type ferries will only sail if the ship’s captain gives the go-ahead.
The Agia Marina-Nea Styra and Rio-Antirrio ferry services are cancelled, as are the Prinos-Kavala and Keramoti-Thassos island lines in northern Greece.
Passengers are advised to check with port authorities and travel agents before departure for possible changes to ferry schedules and journeys due to adverse weather.
