The Panhellenic Seamen’s’ Federation (PNO) decided unanimously to extend its strike throughout Greece for another day for Tuesday, September 3. The nation-wide strike is associated with the collective bargaining contracts with employment.
In talks with the Maritime Association and PNO, the former made a counter-proposal for a 2% increase for two years, which PNO rejected demanding a 5% rise.
According to the Greek Shipowners’ Association for Passenger Ships, the strike has caused serious problems to the supply of goods to the islands and the movement of passengers, as ships transport on average nearly 180 thousand people on a daily basis.
