Restart of the Petra Lesvos – Ayvalik line after four years

The Petra (western Lesvos) – Ayvalik coastal ferry connection was put into operation again yesterday, marking the restart of the line after a four-year absence. The first arrival of the ship from neighboring Turkey took place at the Schengen entry gate of Petra, in the presence of local authorities, tourism bodies, and representatives of the local government.

The reopening of the line is the result of coordinated contacts between the Municipality of West Lesvos with tourism bodies of Lesvos, the Intermunicipal Port Fund and factors from Ayvalik. The route is operated by the passenger ship EMIN?, with a capacity of up to 900 people, with departures every Wednesday from Ayvalik and return every Thursday from Petra.

As stated during the ceremony by the Mayor of West Lesvos Taxiarchis Verros, efforts are continuing to expand the routes, while the goal is also the connection with Ak?ay, on the opposite coast.

The first approximately 50 visitors from Ayvalik were welcomed with traditional treats, tourist brochures and a musical and dance welcome by the Kalloni Dance Club, while the event was attended by organizations and professionals from the island.
